Donald Cayen, of Counsel
Don Cayen began his professional career in 1960 as a mechanical engineer at Giddings & Lewis, Inc. in Fond du Lac. He worked for 17 years designing machine tools, as well as researching, developing, and servicing them. He is a named inventor on two Giddings & Lewis patents. Don is a registered professional engineer in the state of Wisconsin.
In 1977, Don was assigned as liaison between Giddings & Lewis and outside intellectual property counsel. After three years, he left the company and returned to school and obtained a law degree. While in law school, Don clerked for a predecessor of Ryan Kromholz & Manion, S.C.
Upon graduation from law school, Don opened his own intellectual property law practice in Fond du Lac, assisting clients obtain both U. S. and foreign patents. He also worked in all other aspects of intellectual property law, such as trademarks, copyrights, litigation, and trade secrets, as well as business formations and counseling. His clients were located nationwide and ranged from individuals to large corporations. Representative clients included manufacturers of farm machinery, machine tools, welding equipment, medical supplies, button manufacturing machines, paper processing equipment, and dairy products.
